Chevrolet produced the first Corvette ever in 1953; now, 65 years later, the automaker is celebrating by offering buyers a special commemorative package dubbed “Corvette Carbon 65 Edition”. The package will be offered on the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 3LZ and Grand Sport 3LT trims for both coupes and convertibles. The 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition will, however, be available in limited numbers, 650 to be precise so you better contact the automaker immediately if you want to be among the 650.
Why is the Carbon 65 Edition package so special?
The package features black wheels with machined grooves as well as carbon-fiber logo caps at the center. There is only the choice of summer tires for the wheels. Blue brake calipers finish off the wheel design. Models with the package will only be offered in Ceramic Matrix Gray but convertibles will feature blue rooftops. The Corvette Carbon 65 Edition will also feature unique door graphics, special fender, Carbon Flash badges as well as unique mirror caps. The spoiler is also made of carbon-fiber while the quarter intake ducts have a clear finish. These intakes are however only available for coupes. Coupes also get a carbon-fiber trimmed roof and hood section while convertibles feature carbon tonneau inserts.
Inside, models with the package have Jet Black suede upholstery and a gloss carbon-fiber trim. The steering wheel is also made of carbon-fiber. There is a blue contrast stitching which adds an attractive aura to the cabin. The package also adds Competition seats as well as specially made “Carbon 65 Edition” sill plates for a sporty look.
Engine and performance
The Carbon 65 Edition is just a visual package meaning there are no mechanical changes. The Grand Sport and the Z06 will still be powered by their usual engines. The Grand Sport comes with a 6.2 L, V-8 that delivers 460 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. One can also add a performance exhaust system as a standalone option. A 7-speed manual gearbox that comes with active rev matching is the standard transmission system but buyers may go for an 8-speed automatic unit that features paddle shifters. With the automatic system, the Grand Sport-based Carbon 65 Edition will need around 3.5 seconds to make the 0-60 mph dash.
The Z06 models retain the LT4 mill which however has gained a supercharger for the 2018 model year. The model’s mill produces 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. This model should be able to make the 0-60 mph dash in around 3 seconds. Like the Grand Sport, one can opt for a 7-speed manual gearbox or an 8-speed automatic system. The Z06 is capable of attaining a top speed of 205 mph.
