Kia is going to add another gem to its lineup with the fourth generation 2018 Kia Rio Sedan. The new variant was introduced at the New York Auto Show. The Korean team has tweaked the suspension to provide the comfortable ride and handling agility to their customers. This new variant is built on all new platform utilizing high strength steel which made it light weighted than its predecessor. With the manual transmission, it weighs 2,648 pounds and 2,714 pounds with automatic transmission. The Sedan will be available in LX, S and XE trims.
2018 Kia Rio Sedan Exterior
The exterior of the new 2018 Rio Sedan has more sporty and sophisticated feel than its predecessor. You will feel a blend of even surfaces and crunchy lines on the outer face of the new sedan. The front fascia is redesigned and now has the finely sculpted face. The Kia’s famous ‘tiger-nose’ grille is now sleeker and has pronounced appearance. The new variant possesses low and wide stance along with upright A-pillars and updated headlights. The taillights and overhangs at the rear are made thinner and shorter, giving a vertical feel to the rear end of the car. With half an inch increase in the length and wheelbase, the dimensions of the new Kia Rio sedan are Wheelbase 101.6 inches, Height 57.1 inches, Length 172.6 inches and Width 67.9 inches. The sedan will be running on 15 inches Aluminum wheels.
Kia Rio Sedan 2018 Interior
The cabin of the sedan with is 89.9 cubic feet of inner space provide ample leg, shoulder, and headroom to the front passengers. The interior looks more spacious due to increased wheelbase and length. For enhanced comfort and relaxation during the drive, the designers have redesigned the front seats with extra padding and cushioning. The instrumental panel is redesigned and the dashboard carries the same horizontal lines as on the outer design. Passengers can now easily keep their smart devices on a dual level tray on the center console. The sedan also offers 13.7 cubic feet of cargo space.
The vehicle is packed with latest technologies that assist the driver in making the drive smooth and enjoyable. It features a rearview camera, Bluetooth hands-free function, and satellite radio with six-speaker stereo. The higher EX-trim is upgraded with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so the drivers can stay connected to the world via their Smartphones. Along with that, it has a UVO3 voice identification infotainment system and a floating seven inches touchscreen.
The Kia Rio sedan bundles up various features to ensure maximum safety of the passengers. The features include:

Engine and Suspension
Under the hood of the new 2018, Kia Rio Sedan is a powerful Gamma four cylinder 1.6-liter direct-injected engine. The engine is returned and is now able to generate 130 horsepower @ 6,300 rpm and a torque of 119 pounds-feet @ 4,850 rpm. The engine features piston cooling jets, variable intake system and with direct injection provides high-pressure fuel system. Although the new engine is providing 8 ponies less power and 4 pounds-feet of torque, however, this isn’t going to make any change in the performance, even it will result in better throttle response and fuel economy. The engine is mated with six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The suspension is raised with altered geometry while utilizing a torsion beam rear axle and front suspension MacPherson strut. The brakes have been modified to provide crisp handling and comfortable driving with rear drum brakes and 11 inches front disc brakes. Whereas the EX variant is catering front and rear disc brakes of 11 inches and 10.3 inches respectively. The sedan is quieter on the road now as the noise and vibration have been reduced. The KMA team has dampened down the sound passages with the help of bonding and fastening glue.
Price and Release date
The new Rio is anticipated to hit the dealership by fall 2017. The price has not been declared by the Kia Motors America.
